About HBR Studios

Owner and photographer Brian Rauvola started HBR Studios in his apartment in 1994, and later in a modest studio in Canal Park, Duluth, MN. Operating as a portrait/wedding studio (plus photojournalism for the local newspaper), HBR Studios moved to Two Harbors in September of 1997 and remained there operating until October of 2005. Although the Studio was successful, it was always Brian's goal to do commercial work and personal artwork. With the studio completely equipped and out of debt, the decision was made to jump into the unknown realm of "freelance" photographer for a time while building a commercial portfolio. Brian still does photojournalism, where his 'professional' career really started. He shoots for the Lake County News Chronicle in Two Harbors, MN. Brian uses digital SLR up to 4x5 large format film to capture the many special images seen on this site and its 'sister' site Suz's Snaps."I have both the latest in digital equipment, plus the old-fashioned-not-even-any-electronics-at all cameras as well!" he likes to say. Brian is partial to techniques like night photography, pinhole, black and white, studio still life images, abstracts, and more. Come back to see more of these examples, plus all of the nature scenics, flora, and fawna captured in the Arrowhead of Minnesota as well as in his travels.
